Bryan Patrick, Luthier
I am a luthier with a lifelong interest in music and woodworking. I began playing piano at a young age, then learned to play banjo, mandolin, and guitar. At age 14, I built a dulcimer followed by a solid body electric 5-string banjo. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in commercial music from the University of Memphis, and worked for years as a recording engineer and producer. I shifted careers and became a City Planner for Conway, Arkansas, ultimately becoming the Director of Planning.
Throughout my varied careers, I continued honing my woodworking skills, designing and building furniture and stringed instruments. Beyond devices made from wood and strings, I’ve also built analog synthesizers, guitar pedals, and recording devices.
After 20 years in city planning, I retired to concentrate full-time on studying, designing, and hand-crafting mandolins and acoustic guitars. I’ve been a member of the Guild of American Luthiers since 2014. I’ve made studies of golden era instruments, including several Loyd Loar signed mandolins. I continue to refine my designs to create fine modern “vintage” instruments.
